Territory Foods: Meal Prep Chefs to the Rescue

So you want to eat well all or most of the time, but you’re a human and you have a job and relationships to maintain and people to take care of and a house to clean and not enough hours in the day.  What do you do?  I looked into the thought of a meal prep service and never saw any that would accommodate my dietary preferences, allergies, and I wasn’t that impressed with the quality of the food.   Then I started working out at 12Labours Crossfit in Annapolis and saw the refrigerator for Territory Foods and picked up a brochure.  Territory Foods is a GAME CHANGER, people.  ALL of their meal options are gluten, dairy, refined sugar, and nitrate free.  “Awesome start, I thought, “I’m interested.”  They value sustainability and REAL food and they source from farmers who raise hormone-free meats from animals who are free to roam.  They use organic whenever possible.  On their website, you can read all about their vision and what they do:  “Great tasting food, made from the really good stuff, by local chefs and artisans we admire, with lots of variety and choice, in a super simple experience and all supporting important outcomes beyond the plate. That’s us.”

With gluten, dairy, and nitrate free as a base, they also offer plans for Paleo, Whole30, Keto Friendly, Macro Balance, Vegetarian, Low Fat, Lowest Fat, MedStar Healthy, New & Expecting Moms, Mediterranean, Air Sea & Plants, Mixitarian, or No Preference.  There’s literally something for everyone.  My family does Whole30s a few times a year and one of the hardest part about Whole30 is the Hangry you sometimes face and the temptation to just eat something that’s ready.   You HAVE to meal prep if you’re doing a Whole30 and Territory is a life saver.  (Also: Less dishes?  Yes please.)

They offer different meal sizes.  The Boost is about 200-500 calories, Standard is 300-800 calories, and XL is 500-900.  They can write the macros on the meals for you and you get to choose your meals and how many of each you want ahead of time.

You can also add in custom preferences such as “no pork”, or “no almonds”, etc and they’ll send your custom menu that you can change if needed before they are made.  We have bought both the Standard and Boost and usually I usually prefer Boost.  I work out 1 hour 5-6 days a week and that’s usually plenty big for me.  A plus to getting the standard size is when my kids want to share because they often do!

“But does it taste good?”  Yes mama, it really does.  I have yet to have a meal from Territory that hasn’t been everything I dreamed of.  We mostly stick to the Whole30 plan, but we have also even really enjoyed their vegan meals.

I get so excited to pick up our box.  You can choose how many meals you want per week.  Sometimes we do 3 days, sometimes we do 5.  You can choose to have a mix of breakfast lunches and dinners or just stick with the one meal you need most.  It is super helpful for my husband Danny to grab and take to work without either one of us having to spend every night packing a lunch for him.  He heats up a breakfast when he’s running short on time, and grabs a lunch to take with him and he is able to stay on track and not splurge on donuts.  Win.

“But isn’t it expensive?”  Sometimes simple living and minimalism actually might mean spending some money in order to spend less time doing something, because we can’t do EVERYTHING, right?  It’s so common for women and moms especially to feel like they have to do everything and be good at everything, but there are only so many hours in the day.  I love to cook, but when you’re making 3 meals plus snacks for 4 people 7 days a week, it adds up to a lot of time and dishes.  On the days where I’m a little burnt out and don’t want to prepare something, I could either eat out at a restaurant and be eating a bunch of suspicious ingredients OR I could dive into some delicious meal prepped food by local chefs.  Adding Territory to our life has been a game changer.  I feel like they’re saving my life some days.  “I’m starving and don’t want to cook something right now… Hallelujah! Territory to the rescue!”  Also, there isn’t any food waste when you’re eating an already prepped meal.  (Americans are really good at buying healthy food and then not wanting to make it therefore throwing it out eventually.)

This isn’t just a team of people putting together plain chicken and rice and broccoli, it’s a bunch of chefs making delicious and balanced food that happens to fit in with your eating plan.  It’s the best of both worlds.  If you want to try Territory Foods out for yourself, you can use my code “LAURA50” for $50 off your first order.  Enjoy!
